How do I treat stains or marks on my clothing?Updated 4 months ago
Accidents happen - but with the right care, most stains can be treated without damaging your beautiful clothes.
Here’s our go-to guide for safe and gentle spot-cleaning:
Start with these steps:
Act quickly: The sooner you treat a stain, the better the result.
Blot, don’t rub: Use a clean, dry cloth to gently blot the area. Avoid rubbing, which can push the stain deeper into the fabric.
Test first: Always test your stain remover or detergent on an inconspicuous area before applying it to the stain.
Safe stain-fighting tips:
Use mild detergent or a gentle stain remover (look for options made for delicates or natural fabrics)
For oil-based stains, sprinkle a little baking soda to absorb excess oil before blotting
Dab with cool water – warm or hot water can set many stains
For delicate fabrics (like silk or fine knits), stick to spot-cleaning only or take it to a trusted dry cleaner
What to avoid:
Bleach – even on whites, it can damage natural fibres and trims
Hot water – this can cause the stain to set permanently
Over-scrubbing – this may wear or distort the fabric
If the stain doesn't come out on the first try, let the item air dry (don’t tumble dry) and try again - heat can lock the stain in.
